What is Prednisoneused for?
Of all the drugs relying on steroids, Prednisone is the most effective both in treating a wide range of diseases, and in delivering real benefits. At lower dosages, it gives almost immediate relief for inflammatory conditions. At higher dosages, it is effective in reducing the growth and spread of tumors and, along with other drugs, is used in the treatment of some cancers.

How Prednisone help treating particular disorders
Allergies
People can be sensitive to different chemicals in their environment, including food. This can be a permanent condition or seasonal. The results can be a blocked or runny nose, sore eyes and trouble breathing. It can also affect the skin.
Collagen
This includes serious diseases such as lupus erythematosus, a long-term disease where the bodys immune system affects the connective tissues in many of the main organs and causes serious inflammation.
Dermatologic
These disorders affect the skin and Prednisone is used to treat conditions such as pemphigus where the auto immune system misbehaves and causes a serious blistering of the skin.
Edematous
These disorders cause the retention of abnormal amounts of fluid under the skin and stem either from inflammation or other problems in blood vessels, or from changes in the tissue under the skin.
Endocrine
These disorders affect the amount of cortisol produced by your adrenal gland from the cholesterol you eat. It is most usually linked to problems with the thyroid gland and cancers, and produces slow sexual development in the young and serious disruption to the body in adults.
Gastrointestinal
This is a group of inflammatory diseases potentially affecting the whole of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. It is most commonly associated with diarrhea, vomiting and weight loss.
Hematologic
This group of diseases affects the blood and may include low platelet counts, anemia caused by a failure in red blood cells, and so on.
Neoplastic
These are a range of lymphomas and leukemias caused by a tumor in the lymph system, or cancer in the blood or bone marrow.
Opthalmic
This includes a wide range of different problems resulting from inflammation or ulceration in the eye itself or the surrounding soft tissues.
Respiratory
This includes all of the more serious conditions affecting your ability to breathe up to and including tuberculosis.
Rheumatic
This group of diseases includes arthritis, spondylitis, osteoarthritis, gout, and so on. Prednisone is a useful drug in the short-term but not recommended for long-term use.
